Why choose the direct Da Nang → Hue scenic route?
The journey from Da Nang to Hue can be a simple transfer, but the scenic route via Перевал Хай Ван turns it into one of the best travel days in Central Vietnam. Instead of going straight through the Hai Van Tunnel, the pass road climbs over the mountains between Da Nang and Lang Co, with views of the sea, bays, forested slopes and the long coastline below.
Best for first-time visitors
If this is your first trip to Central Vietnam, Hai Van Pass is worth including. The viewpoint, the mountain road and the descent to Lang Co are the most memorable parts of the journey.Best for families and luggage
A private car is door-to-door. Your luggage stays safely in the vehicle while you stop for photos, lunch and sightseeing along the way.Best for Da Nang Airport arrivals
If your flight lands in Da Nang and your first hotel is in Hue, a private car can pick you up at the airport and take you straight to Hue via the scenic route.Best for flexible stops
You can stop at Hai Van Pass, Lang Co Beach and Lap An Lagoon without following a fixed bus or train schedule.Route overview and timing
This itinerary does not include Marble Mountains because this article focuses on the direct Da Nang → Hue scenic route. Marble Mountains is better planned as a separate Da Nang / Hoi An half-day trip unless you specifically request it. Prices verified June 2026 — we recommend confirming directly before booking.

Da Nang Airport to Hue — direct transfer option
Many travellers fly into Da Nang but plan to stay in Hue first. In that case, a Da Nang Airport to Hue private car is the simplest option: your driver meets you at the airport, helps with luggage, and takes you directly to Hue by either the scenic Hai Van Pass route or the faster tunnel route depending on your arrival time and weather.
Stop 1: Hai Van Pass — the main reason to choose the scenic route

Hai Van Pass is the highlight of the road journey from Da Nang to Hue. From Da Nang, the drive up to the pass takes about 40 minutes. The road climbs above the coast and gives views back toward Da Nang Bay on one side and down toward Lang Co and Lap An Lagoon on the other. For most guests, a 30-minute stop is enough for photos, a short walk and a few minutes to enjoy the mountain air.
How long to stop
Around 30 minutes. This gives you time for photos, the summit viewpoint and a quick look at the old fort area without making the day feel slow.Best time from Da Nang
With an 8:00 AM pickup, you reach Hai Van Pass at around 8:40 AM — after the worst early mist has started to clear, while the day is still not too hot.Photography tip
The view toward Da Nang Bay is best when visibility is clear. On misty days, the road still feels dramatic, but the wide blue-sea view may not appear.Driver advice
Do not rush this stop. Hai Van Pass is not just a road between two cities — it is the experience that makes this route different from a normal transfer.Stop 2: Lang Co Beach — seafood lunch and coastal break

After descending from Hai Van Pass — about 20 minutes of mountain road — Lang Co Beach is the natural place to slow down. The beach sits between the sea and the lagoon, with mountains behind it and fresh seafood restaurants along the route. On this itinerary, you arrive at Lang Co around 9:30 AM, which is a good time for an early lunch before the midday rush.
Stop 3: Lap An Lagoon — calm water, fishing boats and mountain views

Lap An Lagoon is about 15 minutes from Lang Co and is quieter than both Hai Van Pass and Lang Co Beach. On calm days, the mountains reflect in the shallow water and local fishing boats move slowly across the lagoon. A short 10–20 minute stop is usually enough for photos before the final 45-minute drive into Hue, arriving around midday.
What to see in Hue if doing a day trip from Da Nang
If you are travelling one-way to Hue, you can keep the afternoon relaxed after check-in. If you are doing a Da Nang to Hue round trip, the key is not to add too many stops. Three main sites are enough for one day.
Weather and safety on Hai Van Pass
Hai Van Pass has its own weather. It can be sunny in Da Nang but misty on the pass. Most days, light mist is not a problem and can even make the drive feel more atmospheric. But heavy rain, thick fog or poor visibility changes the plan.
Clear or lightly misty weather
The driver can take the Hai Van Pass road and stop safely at the viewpoints. This is the best version of the route and is typical for most of the year.Heavy rain or thick fog
The driver may recommend the Hai Van Tunnel for safety. The tunnel is faster and more comfortable when visibility on the pass is poor.Rainy season note
October to December is the rainiest season in Central Vietnam. Weather on Hai Van Pass is most unpredictable during this period — your driver will assess conditions on the day and recommend the pass or tunnel accordingly.Best months for the pass
February to August generally offers the clearest conditions for Hai Van Pass. The views are most reliable in the dry season months of March to July.Private car vs train vs bus from Da Nang to Hue
The train between Da Nang and Hue is scenic and can be a good choice for solo budget travellers. But if you want Hai Van Pass viewpoints, Lang Co lunch, Lap An Lagoon and hotel-to-hotel service, a private car is the more practical option. Check current train fares and schedules directly on the Vietnam Railways website before booking.
