What to know before this day trip.

Go early for Marble Mountains. The site is busiest from 09:30 when group tours arrive. An 08:00 departure from Hoi An gets you there at opening — better light and quieter paths.
Wear comfortable shoes for Marble Mountains. The paths are uneven stone and the cave pagodas require ducking through narrow passages. Sandals are not ideal.
The Hai Van Pass can be cloudy. The summit sits in cloud more often than not from October to March. Even on a clear day, conditions can change quickly. If the view is socked in, it is still a great drive.
Lap An Lagoon is best photographed from the bridge. The National Highway 1 bridge over the lagoon has the classic wide-angle shot — ask the driver to stop there.
Lunch at Lang Co is worth it. The restaurants along the Lang Co beach strip serve fresh seafood at very reasonable prices — grilled prawns, clams, and fish caught that morning.
