Which Chan May Port shore excursion fits your docking window?
The most important question is not “Which place is famous?” It is: How many hours do you really have ashore? Cruise passengers often count from ETA to ETD, but in real operation you also need time to leave the ship, pass port procedures, meet the driver, and return before All Aboard time.
Private Chan May Port shore excursions with Minh Vu Travel start from 1,400,000 VND per sedan/SUV for outside-gate pickup. For detailed route prices, vehicle options and port permit notes, see the full Chan May Port private car shore excursion service page.
Will I get back to my cruise ship on time?
This is the biggest concern for cruise passengers, and it is the first thing we plan around. A good Chan May Port tour should return you to the port gate at least 1.5 hours before your ship’s ETD. In cruise language, this usually means being back about one hour before All Aboard time.

For Hue routes
Leave the final sightseeing stop at least 2.5–3 hours before ETD. Hue is closer than Hoi An and Ba Na Hills, but traffic, port procedures and slow walking still need a proper buffer. For Hoi An or Ba Na Hills
Leave the final stop at least 3.5–4 hours before ETD. These routes are longer and depend more on Hai Van Tunnel traffic, weather, cable car queues or city congestion.Where does the driver meet you at Chan May Port?
Chan May Port has strict vehicle access rules. The most common and simplest option is outside-gate pickup: your driver waits at the outside security gate with a personalized name sign. Depending on the cruise ship and port operation on the day, passengers may walk or take a port shuttle from the ship pier to the outside gate.

Outside port gate pickup
This is the most common and lowest-cost meeting option. The driver waits outside the security gate with a name sign. From the ship to the gate is usually around 500m–1km, or roughly 7–10 minutes walking/shuttle depending on the cruise operation.Inside pier pickup
Pickup near the ship’s gangway may be possible only when the vehicle has a port permit arranged in advance. Port permits normally require 24–48 hours and may involve an official fee, often around USD 25–35 per passenger depending on port rules, cruise arrangement and vehicle type.Port access rules can change by ship and port authority operation. When you send your ship name, ETA and ETD, we confirm the most practical meeting point before the tour day.
Chan May Port to Hue — the safest classic choice
Hue is the strongest all-round shore excursion from Chan May Port. It is closer than Hoi An and Ba Na Hills, culturally important, and possible even when your docking window is not very long. For passengers who want imperial history without spending most of the day in a car, Hue is usually the best choice.
Best Hue route from Chan May Port
A guide is strongly recommended for Hue. Without historical context, the Citadel and royal tombs can feel like large buildings and courtyards. With a guide, guests understand the Nguyen Dynasty, royal architecture, imperial rituals and why Hue was Vietnam’s former capital.
Can you visit Hoi An from Chan May Port?
Yes, but this is the route where timing matters most. Hoi An is beautiful, but it is far from Chan May Port. You should only choose Hoi An if your docking window gives you enough time to drive south, enjoy the Ancient Town, and return with a safe buffer.
Minimum time ashore
At least 9 hours ashore. With less than that, the route becomes too rushed. Ten hours or more is much more comfortable. If ETD is 17:00
Usually not recommended. You would need to leave Hoi An around 12:30–13:00 to protect the return buffer, which leaves too little time in the Ancient Town.If ETD is 18:00–19:00
More realistic. You can visit Hoi An and leave around 14:00–14:30 depending on the exact ship schedule and road conditions.Marble Mountains
A good add-on only for guests who can handle stairs and uneven stone paths. For older cruise passengers or slow walkers, keep it optional. For the southbound route, the scenic Hai Van Pass can be included on the way out if the weather is good and time is wide enough. On the return, the Hai Van Tunnel is usually better to protect the ship return schedule.
Chan May Port to Ba Na Hills and Golden Bridge
Ba Na Hills is possible from Chan May Port, but it should not be sold as the default choice for every cruise passenger. It is best for guests who specifically want to see the Golden Bridge and have at least 8.5–9 hours ashore.
Cable car queues
On busy days, the queue for cable cars can take 45–60 minutes. That affects the whole cruise-day schedule.Weather risk
Ba Na is in the mountains. Fog or sudden rain can reduce views dramatically, and guests may not see the Golden Bridge clearly.Ticket timing
Buying tickets at the counter is risky for cruise passengers. QR tickets or pre-purchased tickets save valuable time.Walking fatigue
Ba Na involves cable cars, slopes, steps and moving between zones. It can be tiring for older guests or anyone with limited mobility. If Ba Na Hills is your dream stop, book tickets in advance and choose a private car itinerary with a clear latest departure time from the cable car base.
Chan May Port to Da Nang — a lighter shore excursion
Da Nang is a good choice for passengers who want scenery and coastal city highlights without a heavy historical day. It is also more flexible than Hoi An and less weather-dependent than Ba Na Hills.
Recommended light Da Nang route
- Hai Van Pass viewpoint — scenic mountain and ocean view if time and weather allow.
- Linh Ung Pagoda / Lady Buddha — easy walking, sea breeze, beautiful view over Da Nang Bay.
- My Khe Beach — quick coastal drive or photo stop.
- Dragon Bridge / Han River — central Da Nang city icons.
- Marble Mountains — optional only for active guests; many stairs and uneven cave paths.
Walking difficulty: which stops are easiest for cruise passengers?
Cruise passengers often include older travelers, slow walkers and guests who prefer comfort over long walking. This is why destination choice matters as much as distance.
Private car vs cruise ship tour: what is the real difference?
Cruise ship tours are convenient, but they usually operate as large shared bus groups. A private car is different because the vehicle and timing belong to your group only.

Flexible timing
You leave when your group is ready, not when a 40–50 person bus group is complete. If the ship docks late or the weather changes, the route can be adjusted immediately.Better use of time
You can spend longer at the places you enjoy, skip souvenir stops, and choose a local restaurant or coffee stop instead of following a fixed group itinerary.Private and cost-effective
For couples, families and small groups, a private car is often more comfortable and can be more reasonable than buying marked-up cruise shore excursion seats per person. What to send when booking a Chan May Port private shore excursion
For cruise pickups, the details matter. Please send the information below so the driver, meeting sign and return buffer can be planned correctly.
- Ship name and cruise line
- ETA and ETD — arrival and departure time
- Passenger name for the meeting sign
- Number of passengers and luggage if any
- Preferred route — Hue, Hoi An, Ba Na Hills, Da Nang or custom plan
- WhatsApp number or email
- Special needs — wheelchair, slow walking, child seat or guide request
A photo of your cruise itinerary is not always required, but it is helpful if your ETA/ETD is shown clearly. We use this to double-check the safe return buffer.
When should you book for cruise season?
Chan May cruise season usually runs from October to April, with the busiest months from November to March. During this period, private cars and English-speaking guides can sell out quickly when multiple cruise ships arrive close together. Booking 2–4 weeks in advance is strongly recommended for the best vehicle and guide availability.
