Where is Our Lady of La Vang Shrine?
A national Marian pilgrimage centre in Central Vietnam, north of Hue.
Our Lady of La Vang Shrine (Trung tâm Hành hương Đức Mẹ La Vang) is located in Hai Lang Commune, Quang Tri Province, north of Hue. It belongs to the Catholic Archdiocese of Hue but is not located within Hue city. Travellers also search for La Vang Holy Land, La Vang Basilica, La Vang Pilgrimage Centre and Thánh địa La Vang.
According to Catholic tradition, devotion to Our Lady of La Vang dates to 1798, when Christians who had sought refuge in the area reported an apparition of the Virgin Mary. The shrine remains an important Catholic pilgrimage destination for worshippers from Vietnam and overseas.
The old brick bell tower, shown in the featured image, survives from the former basilica damaged in 1972. Access to newer structures and prayer areas depends on current site arrangements.

Rates are per vehicle, not per person. One-way means a direct transfer without return transport. Full-day round trip means the complete 10-hour pilgrimage programme, including travel both ways and the visit to La Vang. Prices apply to the standard route from central Da Nang or central Hoi An. Different pickup locations or additional destinations are quoted separately before booking. Prices in VND are official. USD figures are approximate, calculated at 1 USD ≈ 25,840 VND (28 October 2026), and may differ from the final exchange rate.
What is included in the full-day pilgrimage?
- Private air-conditioned 4-, 7- or 16-seater vehicle for your group.
- Hotel pickup in the agreed central Hoi An or Da Nang area and return drop-off at the agreed location.
- Experienced local driver, fuel, road tolls and parking for the direct itinerary.
- Driver waiting while you visit and pray at La Vang, within the 10-hour round-trip programme.
Not included: a religious or sightseeing guide, meals, personal purchases, donations and any event-related charges charged by the venue. Hue sightseeing and a dedicated restaurant stop are optional custom itineraries and are quoted separately in advance.
This is a private car service with a driver, not a guided religious tour. Religious services are arranged by the shrine.
What to see and do at La Vang Pilgrimage Centre
- Prayer at the Marian shrine: pause for reflection and personal prayer in the designated public prayer areas.
- Statue of Our Lady of La Vang: visit the Marian prayer setting when accessible.
- Historic bell tower: see the brick tower that remains from the former basilica, an important historical landmark.
- New basilica: view the architectural complex from areas open to the public; building work or religious events may limit access.
- Mass and Rosary: attend an announced service if it fits your date and the programme confirmed by Church authorities.
A prayer-focused stop may take 1–2 hours when travel conditions allow. Allow more time for a scheduled service or special gathering; the shrine controls site access and worship schedules.
Suggested 10-Hour Full-Day La Vang Pilgrimage Itinerary
A simple direct programme, not a multi-stop sightseeing tour.
- Early morning: pickup at your agreed Hoi An or Da Nang hotel, then travel north via the direct route.
- Prayer time: spend time at the Marian shrine, historic bell tower and other accessible areas. Attend Mass only if your visit matches a verified schedule.
- After the visit: meet your driver at the agreed pickup point and travel back to the original departure city.
- Finish: return to your agreed hotel as part of the 10-hour programme.
The programme includes both driving legs and the shrine visit. Actual prayer time depends on the day’s journey; Hoi An departures may require an earlier start than Da Nang.
Mass times, pilgrimage dates and best time to visit
La Vang is an active Catholic pilgrimage centre. Mass and Rosary schedules can change. Please check dated announcements from the Archdiocese of Hue for your specific travel date; Minh Vu Travel does not set or guarantee the liturgy programme.
August 15, the Feast of the Assumption, is important in La Vang pilgrimage tradition. Major celebrations may bring heavy traffic and adjusted access or parking arrangements.
If attending Mass is essential, send us the confirmed service time before booking so we can discuss an appropriate departure. Access may vary during construction or special events.
Direct Hai Van Tunnel route or an extra stop in Hue?
The standard La Vang pilgrimage concentrates on getting you to the shrine and back. For the direct journey, travelling through the Hai Van Tunnel usually makes more sense than taking the scenic mountain pass, especially with elderly pilgrims or a scheduled prayer service.
If you also want to visit Hue, drive the Hai Van Pass, or plan a dedicated restaurant stop, request a separate custom quotation. These are not included in the standard La Vang pilgrimage.

Practical tips for families and Catholic pilgrims
- Dress respectfully: modest, comfortable clothing suitable for an active religious site.
- Plan around Mass: confirm the service time and language using the official Archdiocese notice before arranging your car.
- Bring water and sun/rain protection: parts of the site are outdoors, and Quang Tri weather can change.
- Travel with children or seniors: let us know about mobility needs, child seats, luggage and preferred vehicle size.
- Photographs: follow site notices and respect worshippers, especially during ceremonies.
- Major pilgrimage days: expect heavier road traffic and possibly adjusted parking or meeting points.
